Al Azhari Thrilled at Debut Date

The wait is nearly over for Karim Al Azhari as he looks forward to making his debut in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East next month.

But the hugely experienced UAE driver is not expecting the second half of the 2011/12 season to be a ‘walk in the park.’

Al Azhari will take his bow for the Dubai- based Al Nabooda Racing team in the Porsche one-make series in Saudi Arabia in February when he takes over the driving duties from Stephane Lemeret.

"I'm absolutely thrilled," Al Azhari told media. "It's been a three-year wait for me since I knew the series was starting. Ever since then I've been eagerly anticipating my entry into the championship and I'm very excited about it.

"I've been close to Stephane who is a very experienced driver and I've seen that the GT3 Cup car is very technical. I will need to put in a lot of work to perfect my understanding of the car and become successful. It's definitely not going to be a walk in the park."

Al Nabooda Racing team are run by Porsche Centre Dubai and are the authorised Porsche Dealership in Dubai and Northern Emirates.  They chose former Belgian Touring Car champion Lemeret to launch the first half of the 12-round championship GT3 Series, before handing over to Al Azhari for the remaining rounds that get underway at the Reem International Circuit, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 15th and 16th February.

Team manager of Al Nabooda Racing, Vijay Rao, who is also the General Manager of Porsche Centre Dubai, commented: "Karim has had a long and successful association with Al Nabooda Racing and we're now looking forward to achieving more great things together. We're grateful to Stephane Lemeret for lending us his great experience during the first half of the season, and Karim can build on what has been achieved so far."

Top Five Championship Positions after 6 Rounds are:

      1. Abdulaziz Al Faisal - Saudi Falcons 110pts
      2.  Bandar Alesayi - Saudi GT Racing 102pts
      3. Stephane Lemeret - Al Nabooda Racing 86pts
      4. Ahmad Al Harthy - Oman Air Racing 80pts
      5. Saeed Al Mouri - Saudi Falcons 72pts
