Game, Set & Match for Porsche
Porsche and German Tennis Association (Deutscher Tennis Bund – DTB) have announced that the German women's tennis team, that contains world class competitors such as Sabine Lisicki, Julia Görges, Andre Petkovic and Angelique Kerber will compete throughout the 2012 season as 'Porsche Team Deutschland'. As the premiere partner of the DTB, Porsche will sponsor the crown jewel team of the world's largest tennis association as they embark on their 2012 offensive of the globes most sought after tournaments.
Porsche will also aid the development of the country's junior tennis scene as Germany's juniors (U16's) are rebranded the 'Porsche Talent Team Germany'.
As a direct result of the three year partnership with the DTB, Porsche are hoping to invigorate women's tennis and help bring a little success to Germany.
"We want the German players to be successful as a team," Matthias Müller, President and CEO of Porsche AG told media.
Porsche hope that Germany's junior competitors will reap benefits from a victorious group of women players. "Playing tennis is far more fun for youngsters when they have role models. We want to play our part in making sure there are such role models in the future too," Matthias Müller continued.
"One of our most important aims over the coming years is that German women's tennis establishes itself long term at the top again," DTB President Dr Karl-Georg Altenburg said. "The cooperation with Porsche enables us to optimise the structure to achieve it and to invest in junior coaching. Particularly important here is to put the necessary measures in place for the coaching programmes designed for our up-and-coming female players."
The collaboration with the DTB is also a clear sign that Porsche are still 100 per cent committed to the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. "We also want to continue to present our audience in the Porsche Arena with the world's top players and the best Germans – and if possible a German winner every now and again," said Matthias Müller.
The Tournament Director of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, Markus Günthardt, believes the evergreen tournament will become even more attractive with Porsches' continued association: "The players supported by Porsche are quite capable of winning important tournaments and can maybe make a major breakthrough in the near future. We've had to wait a long time for such strong German players ever since the Steffi Graf and Anke Huber era."
Porsches' support for the DTB is an integral part of their sponsoring strategy that spans all parts of German culture including the Stuttgart Ballet and Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. They also support junior sport club activities in Saxony and Baden Württemberg, as well as various charity and scientific projects. Porsche know that by supporting such a varied array of activities, they are further embracing their social responsibility within German society.
