The New Porsche 928
The Porsche 928 never quite lived up
to the success of the 911 signature model. Now Porsche are going to
come back with a new front engine 928 and just looking at the
pictures of the new 928 is enough to make anyone weak at the
knees.

Porsche stopped producing the 928 in 1995
after an 18 year run, during that time the 928 never quite managed
to capture everyone’s imagination. Personally, I always loved the
928 and although it was never an icon, I still think its design was
absolutely gorgeous. Even now I think it is some of the best design
work Porsche has ever done.
That being said, when I saw the images of the
new 928, frankly I was very surprised at how good it looks. Unlike
the Cayenne and Panamera, the new 928 takes nothing from the 911 in
terms of design or inspiration. This front-engine coupe will go
head to head with the likes of the BMW M6, Jaguar XKR and the Aston
Martin DB9. In the looks stakes I know where my money will go,
because the pictures of the car look amazing. It is clear from the
rear end that some inspiration has come from Jaguar and Aston
Martin.
In the performance stakes the new 928 looks to
be no slouch, power starts at a stable 350 horse with the turbo
model outputting in excess of 500. We have heard rumours of a
possible 6 litre V10 that would output over 650 horsepower. Prices
will start at around £80k rising to £130k for the rarer models.
This car is clearly geared up to sit above the 911 in the Porsche
portfolio, so ideally placed to not hamper the sales of any of the
existing Porsche models.
This new car is scheduled to be available in
2011 and the industry is already poised to get their hands on this
beast. Hearts are already racing just looking at the pictures.
Everyone at Autobahn is eagerly waiting for the 928 to be
released.
